Military Numberplate Design – North St. Louis County

North St. Louis County (KTVI -FOX2now.com) – There are license plate designations for a lot of military actions. But not until now, has one been available for those who engaged in actual combat during the current war. John Auble has the story on why you can thank a north county soldier for making that happen. Spec. Michael Moore/American Soldier: “It’s something I felt I could do to those soldiers who weren’t being recognized.”

Specialist Michael Moore was one of them, serving with a military police unit in Iraq. Suddenly, he found himself in harm’s way.

Michael: “We got shot at. We got grenades thrown at us. Bombs went off.”

His unit would ride in these caiman trucks to go out and help their fellow troops. That’s above and beyond for a military policeman. But, that’s the way war can be. Many soldiers, from cooks to bookkeepers, are thrust into combat and Michael felt they should get some credit for that.

When he got home, this 35 year old single father of a 12-year-old son, began working his way through Missouri politics. Things began looking up when he got in touch with senator green got a law passed where those who saw combat can now proclaim that on their license plates.

Michael: “He realized there was a whole chunk of U.S. soldiers that weren’t being recognized where others were.”

Michael himself, of course, is a “combat action badge” holder.

Michael: “If there’s something you want to do yourself to show other people around you, ‘Hey, I went and I fought and I made it home,’ this is just a good way to be able to do that.”

Justifiably, Michael Moore is proud of his effort.
