Number Plate Plans Pass Legislation

Bills to create special number plates for endangered species, the military, veterans, a radio station, the American Cancer Society, motorcyclists, the Who Dat Nation, retired state workers, pedestrians and social clubs are flying through the Legislature.

Dozens of vanity plates already exist. High school students can show their school colors on their number plate. There also are plates for members of Upper Room Bible Church and lovers of the Catahoula Cur.

Proceeds from the latest batch of number plate proposals would benefit military families, bicyclists, pedestrians, youth fitness programs, a New Orleans radio station, college students and endangered species.

Some of the plates would help the state pay its bills by tackling an ever-mounting retirement system debt and the debt service on borrowing for Superdome improvements.
