Every year for almost a decade, the Shriners made sure there was a bill before the Legislature to create a number plate honoring their work with children.
No bill ever made it into law, as senators shied from opening the floodgates to specialty plates.
But the Shriners didn’t stop trying.
It’s no wonder then that the Shriners are the first group to go through the process to get an organizational number plate under a new state law.
It’s been certified as an organization that can get its own plate, said Beverly Neth, Motor Vehicles Department director.
And if it gets orders (and money) for 500 license plates, Shriners number plates will be available
