Beware of number plate thefts appeal

POLICE in Cambridgeshire are appealing for information following a spate of number plate thefts.

Officers believe the stolen number plates are being used on other vehicles in a bid to avoid congestion charges or speeding fines.

It is also believed they are used to commit criminal activities including thefts of fuel and burglaries.

A police spokesperson said: “Vehicle owners can reduce the risk of their number plates being stolen by replacing normal screws with anti-theft number plate screws.

“These are available from most vehicle parts shops and suppliers or via the internet.

“If you have any information, which could help us to build up our ‘intelligence picture about the thefts please call us.”
