FREE kits to stop number plates being stolen have been launched.
The packs include a set of non-reversible screws, which replace the existing screws on your number plate to keep it securely fixed to your vehicle.
They also contain window stickers and a crime prevention booklet and can be obtained from police station front desks across the borough.
Crime reduction officer, Alan Twine, said: “The non-reversible screws only take a matter of minutes to fit to your vehicle, but they could save you weeks of hassle of having your number plate stolen.”
The kits, funded by the Thurrock Community Safety Partnership, have been launched after almost 200 number plates were stolen in 2009.
Police said that stolen number plates are used by people who commit offences such as speeding, illegal parking, driving away from a petrol forecourt without paying or disguising a stolen vehicle.
Mr Twine added: “These packs will reduce your chances of being faced with motoring related fines for something you didn’t do. So next time you pass a police station, pop in and pick up yours for free.”
