State Sen. Mary Margaret Whipple (D-31st) is patroning legislation authorizing the Department of Motor Vehicles to issue specialty license plates in honor of the Washington Capitals, whose headquarters and training facility is located in Ballston.
The state Senate approved a similar measure last session, but the Capitals’ plate was removed on the House of Delegates side.
Those purchasing the plates would pay an annual surcharge of $25. After the first 1,000 sets of plates is issued, $15 from each sale would go to the Washington Capitals Charities to support its operation and programs in Virginia.
