New Numberplates Released – Nebraska

Lisa Niedermeyer of Cook was among the first in Otoe County to receive the new Nebraska license plates.

The state redesigns its plates every six years and Niedermeyer said they did a fine job this year with images of the state flower and state bird.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension Specialist Steve Zimmers happened to be walking by when Niedermeyer demonstrated her 4-H skills by correctly identifying the state icons as the western meadlowlark and golden rod.

The Nebraska Department of Roads selected the gold, black, green and white design after asking for public input in an online poll this spring.

A plain  red, black and white plate was first selected, but was withdrawn after authorities learned the website collegehumor.com caused a spike in the voting.
