Vehicle Registration License Renewals

The Department of Infrastructure has announced that from this month, vehicle duty reminders will be issued as usual, except that under the pilot project, those people whose vehicles are shown on the Motor Insurance Database will have the option of paying for their vehicle licence online.

The department has developed a link to the Motor Insurance Database which already holds the registration numbers of more than 70 per cent of Manx-registered vehicles which have been supplied by insurance providers.

A fortnightly check of licensed vehicles (registration numbers only) will be made against the Motor Insurance Database and this will allow those people whose vehicles are recorded on that database the opportunity of renewing their vehicle licence online.

The relevant car owners will see a special code on their road tax reminder letter which will allow them to use the online payment facility for up to one month.

If you tax your car online your vehicle licence will be posted out to you within three working days.

The Department of Infrastructure is hoping all insurance companies will register vehicles they insure on this system.

The department has future plans to change primary legislation to make this mandatory. However, this would be subject to Tynwald approval.

To discover if your insurance provider has submitted information about your vehicle you can do so by searching the database by clicking the green button on the right hand side of the following website http://askmid.com

If your vehicle is not listed on the Motor Insurance Database, this does not mean that you’re not insured, only that the insurance is not currently recorded on the Motor Insurance Database and you will not be able to use the on-line renewal facility but must continue to either post your application or use your local post office.
