You might have another chance to get that personalized Texas number plate you’ve always coveted.
As of Monday, you could order vanity plates in seven characters instead of six, a first in Texas history. The only caveat is that the first letter has already been picked for you: “T” for Texas.
The so-called T plate allows the recycling of common names and words that were claimed decades ago by other Texans.
But you better choose your name or favorite word quickly, warned the spokeswoman for the company designing, marketing and selling the new number plates.
“As of 5 p.m., we sold 80 specialty plates, 43 of them T plates,” said Kim Miller Drummond of My Plates, which began selling vanity number plates for the Department of Motor Vehicles in November.
Among the names grabbed on the first day were T HOOKUP, T RUFDM, T GOLDEN, T RANCHR, T MIZZOU and T SHELBY.
The plates now come in 18 colors including pink and black.
But these new plates come at a price: $95 a year or as much as $495 for 10 years, if you’re willing to pay up front to keep the plate that long.
