A motorcyclist in the Indian city of Mysore has been fined for tampering with his vehicle's number plate to avoid traffic fines. The rider, identified as KA-09 JM-20, was found to have covered the last two digits of his numberplate with a sticker, effectively altering the registration number to KA-09 JM-2022.

The rider's attempt to deceive traffic authorities was foiled when VV Puram Traffic Police officers spotted the altered numberplate and traced the vehicle back to its owner. The rider was subsequently booked for cheating and his case was referred to Vijayanagar Police Station for further action.

Abu Dhabi, in the UAE, has the record for the most expensive number plate ever sold. That number plate was a simple “1”. It was bought in 2008 by businessman Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Khouri for £7.25 million.
