xBScion xB Private and Cherished Registration Number Plates

The Scion xB is a small urban SUV, or a tall wagon, depending on your point of view, that debuted for the 2008 model year. With the possible exception of the wheels, there's not a single straight line on the xB's body. Its design motif could best be described as "ouda." Of course, the xB's shape is functional, providing interior space comparable to a compact sedan in a vehicle that's shorter than a Honda Civic.
Fortunately, the xB provides reasonable ride comfort, with relatively little of the crashiness sometimes found in small, tall vehicles. Steering is somewhat sluggish, but the car turns with a reasonably accurate feel. Braking is impressive, with a firm and progressive pedal feel. xB models with the standard five-speed manual transmission have standard stability control, but the optional four-speed automatic does not.
Inside, the xB is quite versatile, with a clever two-tier loading floor that can double as a hidden storage area. The front seats are reasonably comfortable, but the rear seat is short on legroom. The xB's odd shape pays dividends in the enormous cargo space it provides, however.
xB models are fairly well equipped, with air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, and power windows, locks, and mirrors. The audio system provided six speakers and a CD player, but Scion missed the boat by not offering an auxiliary input or even a simple MP3 jack.
Beginning with the 2009 model year, Scion offered an optional premium sound system that included HD Radio and a Bluetooth hands-free phone interface. The xB gained standard traction control for 2010, and a redesigned front end incorporating Scion's new corporate "look" appeared for 2011.
A wide range of accessories is available through Scion, including racing stripes, hood-mounted tachometers, and body kits. Tuned suspension systems are available from several aftermarket suppliers.
The xB shares its engine with the Toyota Corolla: a 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder that produces 128 horsepower. This is enough to propel the xB from zero to 60 mph in 10.3 seconds, according to Scion, which is about average for this class of car. The five-speed manual transmission is a delight to use, with a precise action that's uncommon in low-priced cars. The four-speed automatic is satisfactory, but we'd skip the optional four-speed automatic, as it locks out access to the car's top speed.
