Infiniti's JX premium crossover SUV debuted for 2013, and offers a combination of sleek styling, a flexible, high-quality interior, and equally satisfying driving dynamics. It shares its platform and many components with the Nissan Altima midsize sedan and is sized somewhere between the Nissan Murano and Pathfinder SUVs. The JX comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 265 horsepower and is mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Front-wheel drive is standard on all models, and all-wheel drive is available. The interior of the JX boasts several clever storage solutions and an attractive design with plenty of passenger room, especially in the rear. Available luxury and technology features include a 15-speaker Bose sound system, heated and cooled front seats, Bluetooth phone connectivity and Infiniti's InTouch infotainment system with dual 7-inch color screens. From the outside, the JX features a bold, aerodynamic design with plenty of curves and a distinctive grille. Optional items include 20-inch wheels and a power rear liftgate. Among its competitors are the Acura MDX, Buick Enclave, Lincoln MKT and Mercedes-Benz M-Class. What's New for 2014? Not much. Infiniti has discontinued the optional 2-wheel-drive model, so all JX models now come with all-wheel drive. A new Graphite Shadow exterior color replaces Midnight Garnet. Pricing and Which One to Buy The 2014 JX lists for $40,450, but your local dealer is likely to offer discounts of thousands of dollars off that amount. The uplevel JX Touring model starts at $46,350. Both prices are competitive with those of the Buick Enclave and significantly less expensive than a Mercedes-Benz M-Class. We recommend springing for the Touring model, as its additional amenities are well worth the extra cost.
