Texas drivers got the go ahead Wednesday to spruce up their bumpers with a new batch of commercialized plates, stamped with Ford’s Built Tough logo, NASCAR race colors and even a loaded cheeseburger.
Boomer Sooner fans also won over their border-state rivals, winning the right to buy Texas-made University of Oklahoma-themed plates.
And the state approved two new Dallas Cowboys’ tags, despite concerns from police and others that some of the designs are too cluttered to read clearly.
The Department of Motor Vehicles board reviewed and OK’d 20 new tags proposed by its specialty plate vendor, My Plates. The DMV and My Plates said they would work with law officers to ensure that the lineup complies with visibility standards.
The new offers will range from $55 for a background design-only tag to $195 for full personalization. My Plates sets the prices.
The revenue is shared by the state and the company, which has an exclusive contract to design, market and sell Texas’ personalized plates.
