Yellowknife, N.W.T. – In a little over a year, all NWT vehicles will have new license plates, leaving behind a heap of discarded steel.
Some MLAs, like Jane Groenewegen, are worried some 30,000 old license plates will end up in local dumps.
She says the GNWT should be able to make money off the old plates.
“I am not understanding, why the Dept. of Transporation wants to dispose of the old license plates. There are non-profit organizations, youth groups, sports associations, all kinds of people. You could in turn, instead of disposing of them, you could give that to some organization. They’re light as a feather, you could mail them out to people. Somebody could make money with these things.”
