Legislation Changes for Cherished Number Plates

You can buy a car number plate of your choice — if you are ready to cough up an amount of money that equals the price of two Nanos or a brand new car! The demand for fancy car numbers has always been on the rise, despite the recession, and the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has always kept the facility of bidding for numbers open. It’s far too lucrative for them to close it down, apparently!

Describing the new process, chief regional transport officer AB Gaur says, “Any person wishing for a fancy number has to fill up a registered form available at the RTO and submit it along with the draft stating his amount of bidding, with a written application. He has to submit this in a closed cover to the RTO. All the covers are then opened on the day when they are to be allotted.”
