March 20 (Bernama)– Vehicle registration number plate ‘TAY 1’ issued by the Terengganu Road Transport Department (RTD) created history when it was bought for RM220,000, the highest paid in Malaysia so far.
Terengganu RTD director Abdul Rahman Emang Anyie said the price exceeded the RM200,090 paid for ‘TAN 1’, which held the previous record.
“Six individuals put in bids for the number since we opened the tender for TAY number plates beginning Feb 2-22.
“The highest bid for TAY 1 was RM220,000, followed by TAY 8 at RM62,000,” he said at a news conference here today which was also attended by RTD director-general Datuk Solah Mat Hassan.
He however declined to reveal the identity of the buyer.
According to him before the tender closed the Terengganu RTD received 1,119 bids from 534 bidders for ‘TAY’ number plates.
