LAS CRUCES — You’ve probably noticed them around town — eye-catching turquoise license plates are popping up on cars and trucks all over the state, including hundreds right here in Las Cruces.
Sam Quezada, supervisor at the Motor Vehicle Division field office on South Main Street, said the first box of 200 number plates was gone in just a couple weeks when the new plate became available in January. It’s a new design to commemorate the centennial of New Mexico’s statehood, coming up in 2012.
Quezada picked up one for each of his family’s three vehicles, saying the old-fashioned styling and the colors appeal to him.
“It looks more New Mexico, with the turquoise and the red zia,” Quezada said.
