Pretoria – The Intelligent Number Plate project will drastically reduce the risk of car theft in Gauteng, says Premier Nomvula Mokonyane.
Briefing the National Press Club in Pretoria, Mokonyane said the project will be introduced later this year.
“This will not only help drive Gauteng towards being a better, smarter province, but it will also help combat crime and improve the regulatory systems in the plate production industry,” she said.
Mokonyane said when they start implementing the project; every motorist will be expected to present his or her vehicle to the traffic department with a driver’s licence and the documents to prove that they are indeed owners of their vehicles.
