Screws to stop plate theft

VICTORIA Police will crack down on number plate thefts in Werribee from today.

Motorists will be provided with a set of one-way security screws during Operation Safe Plate.

Transit Safety Police will distribute the screws and offer security advice at the Werribee Railway Station. Leading Senior Constable Peter Dole said the initiative would help combat crime.

“Theft of number plates from vehicles within our local community continues to be an ongoing issue, especially at train stations,” he said.

“We’re finding that a high proportion of petrol thefts are committed with vehicles displaying false or stolen number plates.”
