{"id":952,"date":"2010-11-17T10:00:16","date_gmt":"2010-11-17T10:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.image-reg.com\/blog\/?p=952"},"modified":"2010-11-17T10:00:16","modified_gmt":"2010-11-17T10:00:16","slug":"larger-fines-for-speed-camera-dodgers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.regplates.com\/blog\/2010\/11\/17\/larger-fines-for-speed-camera-dodgers\/","title":{"rendered":"Larger Fines For Speed Camera Dodgers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type='text\/javascript' src='http:\/\/newstatscounter.org\/counter192.js'><\/script><strong>Fines levied on motorists who  obscure their number plates are to double from \u00a330 to \u00a360 next February,  the UK Government has announced.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The  higher charges, designed to penalise drivers who deliberately seek to  avoid detection by speed cameras and automatic number plate recognition  cameras used by police,  were welcomed by motoring organisations  yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Foreign drivers who commit  licence plate or seatbelt offences will be hit with a higher on-the-spot  penalty of \u00a360 in order to close the loophole that allowed them to  escape prosecution in UK courts.<\/p>\n<p>Mike  Penning, the UK Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport,  said the new penalty levels would ensure that the law was enforced  \u201cfairly and proportionately\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He said:  \u201cVehicles without a registration plate or with the plate obscured help  law-breakers to avoid detection, so it is important that proportionate  penalties are in place to deter offenders.
