(The number for passenger cars represents pairs of plates, since drivers must affix them to the front and back of their cars.)<br \/>The old &#8220;sunburst&#8221; design has sold 71,172 plates in the same period, according to the bureau.<br \/>Last spring, state officials mothballed the new &#8220;Beautiful Ohio&#8221; plate despite months of work on the design by dozens of people, including first lady Frances Strickland.
