They got real creative in 1974 and reversed it, yellow with blue  numbers\u2014horrible. Then came 1986, white with navy numbers and the red  statue of liberty\u2014tasteful and simple. 2001, white again, a blue picture  of Niagara Falls on one side, Manhattan skyline on the other\u2014nice. Fast  forward to 2010:\u00a0 \u2018The Gold Standard.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.regplates.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/new-york-number-plate.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-620\" title=\"new-york-number-plate\" src=\"http:\/\/www.regplates.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/new-york-number-plate.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While we are usually a fan of all things retro or vintage, we have to  say, a \u201cgold\u201d or bright yellow number plate on a brand new red  Camaro\u2014not feeling it. But, while we were getting ready to screw these  new bad boys on our silver\u2014yes, silver\u2014car, while fastening our side  pony tail with an electric blue scrungee and busting out into the safety  dance, it came to us. We found a loophole: custom plates.
