A new system for smart number plates is on test. The new plates could help identify a vehicle even if it flees the scene after an accident as it will have a built in microchip tracking device.<\/p>\n

The system will have a tracking device installed with retro-reflective number plates and radio frequency identification tags.<\/p>\n

Similar systems are already in use by insurance companies which are often linked to young driver policies. Public opinion is that this built in tracker would be a step too far.<\/p>\n
