A call has been made for the Mayor of Bornemouth to auction off his prized personalised number plate APR 1 to raise funds for the council.<\/p>\n

The suggestion comes from trade union UNISON, which represents some council workers, as one easy way to cut back while saving jobs.<\/p>\n

Last year the APR1 number plate was valued at \u00a330,000, the same as the Mayor\u2019s car itself.<\/p>\n

Negotiations between the council and the union on a raft of money-saving proposals, including a voluntary redundancy trawl, are due to end in the autumn.<\/p>\n

Robert Oxley, campaign manager of the TaxPayers\u2019 Alliance said: \u201cIt\u2019s absolutely shocking that Poole Council still has money invested in a vanity number plate.<\/p>\n
