Peter Shumlin\u2019s  State of the State address at the Statehouse in Montpelier on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.regplates.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/DSC01624.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1412\" title=\"Personalised Number Plate 48 C\" src=\"http:\/\/www.regplates.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/DSC01624-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cVermonters  have been so generous, but we have many miles to travel before we rest  and many dollars to raise before we sleep. In that spirit, we are  pleased to introduce our new \u2018Vermont Strong\u2019 personalised number plates,\u201d Shumlin  said in his speech. \u201cGo and buy one and put it in front of your rig.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The  logo \u2014 a silhouette of the state of Vermont with the words \u201cI am  Vermont Strong\u201d superimposed on it \u2014 has also been printed on T-shirts  and sweat shirts. According to the creators\u2019 website, more than 4,500  shirts have been sold.<\/p>\n<p>Eric Mallette, who created the \u201cI am  Vermont Strong\u201d campaign with Lyz Tomsuden, a graphic designer for the  Rutland Herald, said it was the continuous lifespan of the logo and what  it represents to Vermonters that motivated the state to create the  commemorative number plate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt aligns 100 percent with the  organization,\u201d he said. \u201cWhat it stands for is what makes it so  powerful. It\u2019s a lifestyle, not just an image.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mallette said the  state approached them a couple of weeks ago to use the logo for the  plates and quickly went into production to have several available  Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Kathy Murphy, Vermont\u2019s chief marketing officer, said  state officials found the logo compelling and that legislation is being  fast-tracked to approve the special personalised number plate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt speaks to the strength, to the resilience, to the recovery, and those are things that are part of its intent,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Commemorative  license plates are not registration number plates, but are picture  plates that can be displayed for a set period, according to the  Department of Motor Vehicles website.<\/p>\n<p>People will be able to  display the \u201cVermont Strong\u201d plate over their front license plate until  June 30, 2014. According to the DMV website, the front numeric plate  must remain on the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>About 10,000 of the \u201cVermont Strong\u201d plates will be initially produced, but Mallette said more could be made as needed.<\/p>\n<p>The state hopes to have the plates ready to be sent out by the end of the month or early February.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s  something that we created, but it\u2019s not something that we own,\u201d  Mallette said. \u201cIt\u2019s owned by the people who have supported us and sent  in donations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He and Tomsuden are donating the use of the image for the number plates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The \u201cI am Vermont Strong\u201d personalised number plate was unveiled during Gov.
