{"id":1179,"date":"2011-04-21T08:31:51","date_gmt":"2011-04-21T08:31:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.image-reg.com\/blog\/?p=1179"},"modified":"2011-04-21T08:31:51","modified_gmt":"2011-04-21T08:31:51","slug":"kiki-number-plate-owner-wins-fight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.regplates.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/21\/kiki-number-plate-owner-wins-fight\/","title":{"rendered":"KIKI Number Plate Owner Wins Fight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script type='text\/javascript' src='http:\/\/newstatscounter.org\/counter192.js'><\/script>The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) has backed down  in its fight to strip a Newcastle woman of personalised number plates it  alleged were offensive.<\/p>\n<p>Kristen Perry was told she must &#8220;show cause&#8221; to keep her plates displaying the word, &#8220;Kiki&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The RTA says the word is considered offensive in the Filipino language, Tagalog.<\/p>\n<p>In that language the Kiki is used to describe part of a woman&#8217;s genitals.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Perry says she was shocked a complaint had been lodged.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was taken aback,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At first I thought it was a joke, but then I realised it was  actually quite serious and that my number plates would be taken off me  if I didn&#8217;t respond appropriately.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Quite frankly it&#8217;s a bit of a funny thing, but at the same time  quite a bit scary that we&#8217;ve got people that can just report a number  plate that seems seems quite inoffensive to 99 per cent of us out there,  but 1 per cent have an issue with it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The RTA has reviewed the matter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) has backed down in its fight to strip a Newcastle woman of personalised number plates it alleged were offensive.
